We offer in-person Turkish classes every Sunday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM during the school year. At the start of each semester, students are initially placed into classes according to their age. During the first week, teachers assess each student’s Turkish language proficiency and, after consulting with the parents, determine the final class placement. OGMS Course Descriptions
TODDLER:
Our Toddler classes are thoughtfully designed to introduce young children to the fundamentals of the Turkish language and culture. Our primary goal is to make each child feel valued and unique, fostering a sense of belonging within our close-knit community. Active parental involvement is a key component of our program.
We use interactive methods to help children grasp the nuances of language. This includes word repetition to enhance pronunciation and the use of movement and sound to aid in understanding. To maintain the children’s engagement, we continually vary the class dynamics. This includes incorporating singing, simple games, and basic sign language as fun and interactive elements of the learning experience.
PRESCHOOL:
Our class aims to acquaint our children with the Turkish language in an enjoyable manner. We engage in games and activities that encourage them to speak Turkish. Additionally, we create a
variety of entertaining crafts, engaging in Turkish dialogues while doing so. Reading Turkish books is another part of our curriculum, and we discuss the stories in Turkish, promoting language learning in an enjoyable and interactive way.
KINDERGARTEN:
Our class has a twofold objective: to impart Turkish language and culture to children in an engaging and enjoyable manner. We kick off by introducing the basics of the Turkish alphabet, along with reading and writing skills. Turkish games and songs are part of our curriculum, fostering a playful learning environment. In addition, we enthusiastically delve into creative crafts with the children. We strive to create a nurturing atmosphere where kids not only listen to and learn Turkish but also actively speak the language. Encouraging self-expression and the articulation of feelings in Turkish is another key component of our approach.
ELEMENTARY I:
In our elementary I class, we begin by learning the Turkish alphabet, and from there, we embark on the journey of reading and writing in Turkish. We immerse ourselves in Turkish stories, engaging in meaningful conversations, asking and answering questions about these narratives. Word games, Turkish sayings, and the art of conversation are integral parts of our curriculum. Furthermore, we incorporate creative crafts into our lessons to not only captivate our young learners but also to encourage them to express their thoughts and emotions in Turkish.
ELEMENTARY II:
The primary goal of our class is to elevate the level of Turkish conversation for our young learners. We thoroughly enjoy reading stories and engaging in thoughtful discussions about them. We encourage questions and actively seek answers, aiming to enhance our students’ comprehension of Turkish. In addition, we incorporate Turkish games into our lessons and provide weekly homework assignments to further reinforce their learning.
ELEMENTARY III:
Our class has a strong emphasis on reading comprehension, speaking proficiency, and self-expression. We aim to nurture the skills necessary for our students to effectively communicate their daily lives in Turkish. Additionally, we explore the rich tapestry of Turkish culture through reading, discussion, and student presentations.
JUNIOR HIGH I:
Our junior high Turkish class students learn about Turkish culture, history, and geography. This comprehensive exploration encompasses significant historical milestones, pivotal events, cultural traditions, Turkey’s geographical features, climatic characteristics, the nuances of Turkish cuisine, the melodic world of Turkish music, and the literary treasures of the Turkish language. Our learning journey extends beyond the theoretical as we immerse ourselves in everyday conversations and engage in discussions on a wide range of specialized topics. Additionally, we study Turkish grammar to enhance our language proficiency.
ADULT BEGINNER:
In our “Introduction to Turkish” adult class, we focus on acquiring practical Turkish language skills for everyday life. We cover essential topics such as the Turkish alphabet, sentence structure, greetings, common phrases, and various verb tenses. Our class follows a well-structured approach, allowing ample practice of daily Turkish conversation and the development of foundational Turkish speaking skills. Throughout the course, we also explore concepts related to telling time, discussing seasons, handling numbers, basic shopping expressions, and seeking directions, among other useful topics.
